Biography

The pursuit of story-telling images and desire to connect with new cultures and distant landscapes has led Andy Richter to 33 countries with his camera in hand.   Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he works as a freelance photographer, shooting editorial and commercial assignments, pursuing personal projects, licensing stock images, and creating fine art prints.   As he evolves as a photographer, he continues to realize that the story tells itself and that he is a mere conduit.   The important thing is to work intuitively, capture the moment, and publish the images so that audiences can relate, empathize, and take action.   Ideas are only as good as their implementation, so in this case, if the pictures are not shown to a wider audience, who will think about the issues the photographer holds dear?

Just returning from a two month journey that spanned 3 continents and 10 countries, Andy is currently developing a body of photographs with the Starkey Hearing Foundation on hearing around the world.   In 2008, SHF will give the gift of hearing to over 20,000 children by fitting them with hearing aids, offering new found hope and forever changing their potential to participate in life.   Early images from this project will be published in NEED magazine in March, while a more comprehensive body of work, Hearing Around the World, will be published as a book in 2009.
